Heartbreak and Father Figures: Amad's Emotional Farewell to Ruben Amorim at Manchester United
It's never easy to see a mentor go, and for Manchester United's Amad, the recent departure of manager Ruben Amorim hit hard. Currently representing the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Amad shared his raw emotions about Amorim's sacking, revealing the deep bond they shared.
Amad, who flourished under Amorim's guidance, is currently representing Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON.) As he gears up for his team's quarter-final clash against Egypt, on Saturday (7pm), he shared his thoughts on Amorim's departure and revealed the heartfelt message he sent to his former boss.
Amad described the news as a "tough topic," admitting he felt "a bit sad." He explained that Amorim was the coach who gave him the most opportunities to shine for Manchester United. In a touching gesture, Amad sent a message to his former boss, expressing gratitude for everything Amorim did for him, both in his career and his personal life. He wished Amorim the best of luck in his future endeavors.
"We had a very good relationship, almost like a father-and-son relationship," Amad revealed. "He understood me, and gave me a lot of advice, and let me play freely."
But here's where it gets controversial... Amorim's dismissal came after a 1-1 draw with Leeds United, following a heated post-match press conference. Could this be a sign of deeper issues within the club?
Amad, despite his sadness, is now fully focused on the AFCON, aiming to help Ivory Coast win the tournament. He recognizes the nature of football, where changes are inevitable, and wishes Amorim all the best in his next role.
And this is the part most people miss... Amad's participation in the AFCON has meant he's missed the last five Premier League matches and will also be absent for the FA Cup tie against Brighton.
If Ivory Coast triumphs over Egypt, Amad will remain unavailable for the upcoming Premier League fixture against Manchester City. However, if they lose to Egypt, he'll return to the UK in time for the Manchester derby.
On a positive note for United, Bryan Mbeumo will be available for the derby due to Cameroon's elimination. However, full-back Noussair Mazraoui will be absent, representing Morocco in the semi-final.
