A prominent rock musician has made a startling revelation about his health, suggesting that without a significant surgical procedure, he might not be alive today.
In a recent candid conversation, Tom Petersson, the bassist of the storied American rock band Cheap Trick from Rockford, Illinois, shared insights about a life-altering open-heart surgery he underwent in 2021. During an interview on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk," Petersson opened up about his unexpected medical situation, which he believes ultimately saved his life.
As reported by Blabbermouth.net, Petersson explained that his heart condition stemmed from a congenital defect that had gone unnoticed until it was discovered quite by chance. "Yeah. It was really a thing that there were no symptoms," he stated, emphasizing the shock of learning about the issue. He continued, "So since there were no symptoms…The heart operations are all different for different reasons, but everybody says, ‘Well, you’re gonna feel so much better.’ But no, I didn’t. I felt fine [before the surgery]. So, no, I didn’t feel any better [after the operation]. But I think I would’ve probably died if I hadn’t done that, but there you go. So I feel better about that."
While Petersson reassured fans that he is currently "doing all right," he reflected on the challenging nature of his experience. "I’m on the fence, really, honestly — whether it was better or not," he admitted. "Maybe it was better just not to know.
He expressed a deep reluctance to undergo such an ordeal again, describing the surgery as far from enjoyable. "That doesn’t sound like fun, and it isn’t, honestly. It’s not fun — it takes a lot out of you. It’s scary," he confessed.
