However, upon closer inspection, police identified the mushrooms as the highly toxic death cap variety, a species that can be fatal if consumed. This mix-up could have had devastating consequences, as ingesting even a single death cap mushroom can prove fatal.

Sergeant Tyler Winter, who was involved in the incident, shared that the man was incredibly appreciative of the police intervention once he realized the potential severity of his mistake. "They were hoping to find mushrooms they could eat and experience a response from," Sergeant Winter explained. "When we informed them that these were death cap mushrooms and not the illegal kind they were seeking, they were grateful for our intervention."

"We strongly discourage anyone from picking and consuming wild mushrooms," he warned.
