Inside Slipknot's Next Album: Updates from Shawn 'Clown' Crahan (2026)

The Future of Slipknot's Music: A Much-Needed Break and Creative Exploration

In the world of heavy metal, Slipknot has been a force to be reckoned with, but it's been a while since their last original album. Let's delve into the latest updates from the band's percussionist and leader, Shawn 'Clown' Crahan, and explore what's in store for their dedicated fans.

Since the release of 'The End, So Far' in 2022, Slipknot has been on a whirlwind journey. They celebrated their debut album's anniversary with a tour, experienced lineup changes, and even finalized their long-awaited 'lost album,' 'Look Outside Your Window.' But amidst all this activity, where does their next album stand?

'Clown' Sheds Light on Slipknot's Creative Process

In a recent interview with NME, Crahan revealed that the band is currently taking a well-deserved break. He emphasized, "We're doing the biggest thing we can do right now, which is taking a much-needed break. We're taking some real human time."

But here's where it gets intriguing: everyone in the band is still writing, even during their break. Crahan adds, "Everybody is writing all the time, but we have not got into a place to work on what's been written."

The Band's Creative Journey: A Balancing Act

While Crahan assures fans that there are tentative plans to work on new music when everyone is ready, it's clear that the band is navigating a delicate balance between touring and creativity. Just last year, guitarist Jim Root expressed his frustration with the lack of new music during a period of lineup changes. In a Guitar Interactive video interview, he admitted that touring had slowed their progress and that he had lost interest in the music they worked on during the COVID break.

However, there's a glimmer of hope. In 2025, Root shared a renewed enthusiasm for getting back into the creative zone. During an appearance on the Turning Wrenches podcast, he revealed that he had six song ideas ready to share with the band and another four in the works. Root explained, "We needed to get out there and show people why Eloy [Casagrande] is part of Slipknot. And that leads to now that Eloy is in the band, we need to write a record."

The Drummer's Perspective: Casagrande's Creative Input

Eloy Casagrande, the newest member of Slipknot, also shared his excitement about the band's creative process. In an interview with Drummer's Review, he stated, "We are cooking, we are doing some new music, for sure. Since I joined the band, we have been working on some new ideas. We keep exchanging guitar riffs, drum beats, so we are always doing something."

Casagrande continued, "We have a lot of material right now. We just have to sit and put everything together, start jamming, and it's happening. It already happened. It's gonna happen in the future. So, new material is coming, for sure."

The Band's Leadership: Crahan's Role

As for Crahan, he often serves as the band's spokesperson, and his role as a leader is evident. In our gallery feature, 'Huge Rock + Metal Bands Whose Leader Is NOT Their Singer,' you'll find Crahan among the other influential leaders who guide these bands from behind the scenes.

And This Is the Part Most People Miss...

While the band may be taking a break, as Crahan shared, it's clear that several members are using this time wisely to develop ideas for their next musical endeavor. It's a delicate dance between touring and creativity, and Slipknot seems to be navigating it with grace and determination.

So, what do you think? Are you excited about the prospect of new Slipknot music? Or do you think they should focus solely on touring? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! Let's spark a discussion about the future of this iconic band.
