Imagine the streets of Newquay transformed into a vibrant carnival, with the Great Newquay Pub Fancy Dress Competition as its centerpiece. "We're not stuck in the past," says Newquay BID Manager, Mark Warren. "This is a fresh start, a long-term vision to make Newquay the undisputed New Year's Eve hotspot in Cornwall." The BID is calling on residents, visitors, and returning holidaymakers to join in, donning their best costumes and embracing the town's unique festive spirit.
The plan is to build anticipation year after year, gradually restoring Newquay's reputation as the place to be on New Year's Eve. The BID is seeking collaborations with venues to develop joint themes, share entertainment, and implement creative ideas that will make each celebration more spectacular than the last.
Safety is a top priority. Newquay BID is working closely with Devon & Cornwall Police to ensure a secure environment. This includes a heightened police presence during peak weekends, the Newquay Rangers program, ShopWatch and PubWatch radios, and body-worn cameras for staff, all contributing to a comprehensive safety net.
Looking ahead, Newquay BID aims to introduce a loyalty card app, offering New Year's Eve venue trails, exclusive promotions, and themed adventures. And let's not forget the midnight fireworks display at Newquay Harbour, a breathtaking spectacle to ring in the new year.
