The East Midlands Railway service bound for Nottingham at 8:29am, and the accompanying train due to arrive at Lime Street at 9:00am from Cleethorpes, were both delayed.
A TransPennine Express service expected from Newcastle at 8:59am was heavily delayed, now anticipated to reach Liverpool at 9:27am.
Additionally, an Avanti West Coast service from London Euston scheduled for 9:04am was showing delays.
Merseyrail passengers faced their own challenges as late-running services affected lines from Ellesmere Port, West Kirby, Chester, and New Brighton.
Rail operator updates attributed the disruption to signalling issues at Bidston in Wirral, impacting the West Kirby line, with a separate report noting a train fault causing cancellations or alterations on the New Brighton line.
To ease the strain, Merseyrail announced ticket acceptance for travelers holding non-Merseyrail tickets: London Northwestern and East Midlands tickets were accepted on Merseyrail services between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool until 10:00am, and Transport for Wales tickets were accepted for travel between Liverpool and Chester until midday.
